A. We have 20 standard colors and for a small fee we are able to mix colors for a different look and hue.
A. Even though we put up plastic to seal off doors and archways where possible, dust is a fine element and cannot be entirely contained by our standard dust collection system. The amount of dust is dependent on the size of your job. If dust is a concern of yours, ask us about our Bona Kemi Automatic Dust Containment System!
A. We would prefer you to be on site to confirm the stain color, etc. when we first begin but after that it is up to you, if you would like to be around.
A. We will cover vents with filter paper during the sanding process.
A. As before, we suggest you use a good plumber.
A. The product should be placed as close to the area where it will be installed as possible. The acclimation depends somewhat on the humidity at the time. That varies quite a bit in Michigan but a good rule of thumb is approximately 72 hours.
A. The Hardwood Flooring Association recommends that the humidity in a home with hardwood floors should always be between 40-60%.
A. Due to aging of the wood specie and stain, at times it is difficult to make an exact match. Each specie has its own characteristics and will age, some more and some less, which will change its color. We will do our best to match the existing floor and have had very good results.
A. You may tear out the floor or we will do it if you prefer and it will be included in total cost of the project.
A. For different types of finish (water-base or oil-base) there are different time frames suggested. The humidity at the time of installation also figures in. You will be given a maintenance brochure put out by the finish manufacturer that will be your guide. As a rule of thumb, we suggest at least 24 hours before there is ANY activity on the floor. Then you are free to walk on it with stocking feet Cure rate for water based finish is 72 hours – 90% cured and a full 7 days to 100% and for oil-based it is 30 days (100% cured). Furniture that does not slide can be replaced after the 72 hours and rugs can go back down after a full 7 days. No cleaning products can be used for the 7 days so just use a damp cloth. Until the cure is complete, you should be as careful as possible. The guide will be very informative.
A. We advise you to use a knowledgeable plumber and will provide the name of one if you would like.
A. You may move your appliances, if you would like, or, for a fee, we will be happy to move those for you. Please note that Rivershores cannot hook up gas or water lines.
A. To acclimate is the process the wood flooring goes through to become “used to” your house. It needs to spend some time in your particular house climate and will expand and contract somewhat depending on what temperature and humidity level you keep in your house.
A. Yes, raw hardwood floors need to be cut with table saws, nailed down with pneumatic nail guns that are connected to air compressors, and sanded with heavy-duty sanders. It is a fairly noisy process. Installing pre-finished floors will be somewhat quieter since they aren't sanded; but those boards still need to be cut and nailed in place.
