Considered a symbol of strength, Red Oak has a rich reddish-gold patina that is unmatched by any other wood. Red Oak can carry a theme throughout your home with its strong undertone, while allowing other facets of your design to stand out.

Appearance

COLOR: Heartwood and sapwood are similar, with sapwood lighter in color; most pieces have a reddish tone. Slightly more red than white oak.

GRAIN: Open, slightly coarser (more porous) than white oak. Plain sawn boards have a plumed or flared grain appearance; rift sawn has a tighter grain pattern, low figuring, quarter sawn has a flake pattern, sometimes called tiger rays or butterflies.

VARIATIONS WITHIN SPECIES AND GRADES: More than 200 subspecies in North America.

DIMENSIONAL STABILITY: Average

DURABILITY: Dense and very strong.

Grades - Prefinished

TIMELESS: Strict grading rules limit the size and number of any natural defects such as knots, streaks, or sap wood. Select or Timeless grading is for the customer looking for the clearest and most consistent look to their flooring.

VINTAGE: This grade allows tight filled knots, as well as other naturally occurring characteristics of wood such as streaks, mineral, limited worm holes, color variation and sap wood.

COLONIAL: This grade allows unlimited character markings that are found naturally in solid wood.
