White Ash (Fraxinus Americana) is a creamy white with golden reflections making this hardwood an interesting option with many different decorating motifs. It has the coloring that makes a great backdrop for many design accents; using furniture, window coverings and other options.

Appearance

COLOR: Heartwood is light tan to dark brown; sapwood is creamy white. Similar in appearance to white oak, but frequently more yellow

GRAIN: Bold, straight, moderately open grain with occasional wavy figuring. Can have strong contrast in grain in plain sawn boards.

VARIATIONS WITHIN SPECIES AND GRADES: Sometimes confused with hickory; the zone of large pores is more distinctive in ash, similar to that of red oak.

VINTAGE: This grade allows tight filled knots, as well as other naturally occurring characteristics of wood such as streaks, mineral, limited worm holes, color variation and sap wood.

COLONIAL: This grade allows unlimited character markings that are found naturally in solid wood.
