PRODUCT OF THE MONTH - SEPTEMBER 2011

The Strand Woven Process

As promised, in this issue of Product of the Month, we’ll be talking more in depth about the strand woven process and what benefits it holds for you, the consumer. This process isn’t exclusively for bamboo alone…it is also utilized with our other eco-friendly products such as mulberry, palm and poplar to insure these materials also are as “hard as a rock” and just as beautiful as our strand woven bamboo.

The Strands

Last month, we talked about the origin of the bamboo and the forests it comes from. In order to understand the process of strand weaving, we need to look more at the bamboo stalk itself. It is a grass that is easily separated into strips (strands). These strands are then boiled in a boric acid solution in order to remove the sappy sugar content…the substance that draws termites and other insects.

The Press

Once the strands are properly dried out, they are crushed in a 2000 ton press that bonds them together in a solid bamboo board. They are milled into precisely measured lengths, widths and thicknesses depending on the type of board requested by the buyer.

The Finish

Following the milling process, the boards are sanded and then coated 7-10 times with a finish we consider to be the most resilient floor finish in the industry. This allows the bamboo flooring to withstand terrific punishment in any application.

The team at Rivershores takes pride in providing you with excellent products and, in doing so, assuring our customers that we stand behind all our manufacturing partners around the world. The strand woven process is just one of the many techniques utilized to make sure that our flooring products excel, not only in the marketplace, but also in your home and office.
