StrandWoven Mosaic
Back in November, we touched on a product Rivershores offers that is made from leftover pieces of poplar used in the fine furniture industry. This month we’re going to expand on that process because we feel StrandWoven Mosaic is one of the premiere reclaimed offerings on the market today.
Furniture Making
As you know, many fine pieces of furniture are either completely made of wood or have wooden parts to them, such as arms, feet or framework. What you may not know is that poplar is one of the most frequently used hardwoods used in the creation of fine furniture, due to its versatility. In the process of furniture making, there are the inevitable chunks and scraps of wood leftover that are usually ground into sawdust or just thrown away. Not anymore! Our eco-friendly flooring supplier has found a way to reclaim these pieces and create the elegant furniture otherwise known as your hardwood floors. That’s right…in today’s design world, your hardwood floor is considered to be part of the furniture in your home or office; something to be viewed, admired and valued.
How Do They Do It?
Rivershores’ manufacturing partners have refined a process that takes poplar scrap wood and peals it into long strips of fibrous material. The eco-friendly dyes are introduced, at this time, to color the fibers as they will appear in the final plank. These strips are then placed into a vat of adhesives, also environmentally safe, and then compressed into molds where they bond into a log-like shape. There the logs are allowed to dry and cure, becoming extremely hard. Then, they are easily cut into the flooring planks that eventually will become the Rivershores’ Mosaic Collection.
Mosaic “Autumn”
Remember the dyes referred to above? These different colored dyes chosen for our “Autumn” flooring, as seen in the picture on the right, are in the tans, browns and copper-red colors. As you can see, “Autumn” is a great name for this product depicting all the beautiful colors seen in the fall.
Mosaic “Galaxy”
Picture the beautiful colors in “Autumn”. Now paint over them with a dark stain, just thin enough to catch glimmers of those lighter fall colors shining through and you will experience our newest offering: Mosaic “Galaxy” hardwood flooring. It’s a beautiful décor option for those who desire a little more dramatic coloring in their hardwood floor. If contrasting a darker floor with a lighter wall or furniture color is what you like, “Galaxy” would be your choice!
